[00:10.66]Now lets hear the story of Bo Diddley
[00:13.73]And the Rock n Roll scene in general
[00:17.92]Bo Diddley was born Ellis McDaniels
[00:21.94]In a place called McCoom, Missississipi about 1926
[00:28.60]He moved to Chicago about 1938
[00:32.95]Where his name was eventually changed to Bo Diddley
[00:38.70]He practiced the guitar everyday and sometimes into the night
[00:45.44]Till his papa's hair began to turn white
[00:49.91]His Pa said "Son, listen hear, I know
[00:53.97]You can stay but that guitar has just gotta go"
[00:59.58]So he pulled his hat down over his eyes
[01:03.20]Headed out for them Western Skies
[01:05.65]I think Bob Dylan said that, he hit New York City
[01:10.97]He began to play at the Apollo in Harlem
[01:13.69]Good scene there, everybody raving
[01:17.45]One day, one night, came a Cadillac with four head lights
[01:27.29]Came a man with a big, long, fat, cigar said,
[01:29.67]C'mere son, I'm gonna make you a star
[01:33.12]Bo Diddley said, "Uh.whats in it for me?"
[01:37.66]Man said, "Shut your mouth son,
[01:39.68]Play the guitar and you just wait and see"
[01:42.77]Well, that boy made it, he made it real big
[01:47.58]And so did the rest of the rock n roll scene along with him
[01:51.86]And a white guy named Johnny Otis took Bo Diddleys rhythm
[01:55.79]He changed it into hand-jive and it went like this
[02:02.33]In a little old country town one day
[02:06.65]A little old country band began to play
[02:10.43]Add two guirtars and a beat up saxophone
[02:14.33]When the drummer said, boy, those cats begin to roam
[02:18.10]Oh baby oh we oh oh
[02:22.40]Ooh la la that rock and roll
[02:25.64]Ya hear me oh we oh oh
[02:30.39]Ooh la la that rock and roll
[02:35.37]Then in the U.S. music scene there was big changes made
[02:39.74]Due to circumstances beyond our control such as payola
[02:45.80]The rock n roll scene died after two years of solid rock
[02:50.37]And you got discs like, ah...
[02:54.17]Take good care of my baby
[02:58.90]Please don't ever make her blue and so forth
[03:03.93]About, ah, one year later in a place called Liverpool in England
[03:09.89]Four young guys with mop haircuts began to sing stuff like, ah...
[03:16.93]It's been a hard days night and I've been working like a dog and so on
[03:27.29]In a place called Richmond in Surrey, whay down in the deep south
[03:32.79]They got guys with long hair down their back singing
[03:36.24]I wanna be your lover baby I wanna be your man yeah and all that jazz
[03:43.34]Now we've doing this number, Bo Diddley, for quite some time now
[03:48.10]Bo Diddley visited this country last year
[03:53.29]We were playing at the Club A Gogo in Newcastle, our home town
[03:59.60]The doors opened one night and to our surprise
[04:02.98]Walked in the man himself, Bo Diddley
[04:06.71]Along with him was Jerome Green, his maraca man,
[04:10.70]And the Duchess, his gorgeous sister
[04:15.20]And a we were doing this number
[04:18.66]Along with them came the Rolling Stones, the Mersey Beats,
[04:23.51]They're all standing around diggin' it
[04:25.75]And I overheard Bo Diddley talkin'
[04:28.85]He turned around to Jermone Green
[04:31.41]And he said, "Hey, Jerome? What do you think these guys
[04:34.43]Doin' our.our material?"
[04:38.92]Jerome said, "Uh, where's the bar, man? Please show me to the bar..."
[04:44.17]He turned around the Duchess
[04:45.87]And he said, "Hey Duchess... what do you think of these young guys
[04:48.53]Doin' our material?"
[04:50.11]She said, "I don't know. I only came across here
[04:53.69]To see the changin' of the guards and all that jazz."
[04:57.61]Well, Bo Diddley looked up and said to me,
[04:59.96]With half closed eyes and a smile,
[05:03.11]He said "Man," took off his glasses,
[05:07.54]He said, "Man, that sure is the biggest load of rubbish
[05:13.21]I ever heard in my life..."
[05:16.20]Hey Bo Diddley
[05:20.80]Oh Bo Diddley
[05:23.69]Yeah Bo Diddley
[05:27.55]Oh Bo Diddley
[05:31.53]Yeah Bo Diddley
